Getting to and around Prince Edward Island

You can get to Charlottetown three ways:

  • By the Confederation Bridge (via New Brunswick)
  • By the Northumberland Ferry (via Nova Scotia — note: ferries were off in the fall owing to repairs, so do check the site to make sure they are running in the spring. You can reserve round trip tickets ahead to ensure a place.)
  • By air (to the Charlottetown Airport).

Charlottetown is a small city with a limited public transit system. If you want to rent a car, you might do so early, since they are harder to get in the summer. You will need a car or cab to get to the North Shore beaches.

Staying a few extra days? For ideas about hiking and biking trails, kayak rentals, golf, deep sea fishing, beaches, tours, and places to eat, go to the PEI Tourism page. More about Charlottetown can be found here. The PEI National Park occupies a large swath of the North Shore of the Island, and you can find information about it here. A fan of L. M. Montgomery?
